Title: And Yet Nothing Better. Fandom: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Characters: Sheik, Link. Drabble Number: 031. Prompt Number: 039. Prompt Word: Taste. Rating: PG-13. Genre: Romance. Quote: "Against what fairy tales say, Love doesn't imply endless hapiness: (...) It's a work that never ends, but they have yet to come up with something better." ~Myself, for the prologue of my Xena/Hercules Series, "As Good As It Gets", you can find the complete quote back at my ff.net account somewhere along the looong profile. Word Count: 294. Notes: Next drabble, also inspired by a pic by spacefragments, actually, this one is something I had thought of doing ever since I saw the pic the first time... which was exactly a month ago, but school, finals, graduation, prom and all my duties to find my way into Uni kept getting in the way. I'm guilty, too, of having had a craving of FMA yaoi and just had to work it out of my system. On the upside, this has been cooking inside me for long enough XD. The pic: "The forest will give us refuge."
And Yet Nothing Better.
It was a craving he had had since he had caught sight of Sheik without his trademark bandages on, ever since he had seen his lips.
He wanted to kiss those lips.
He spent many nights wondering about the taste, the texture. Would Sheik even like it? Would he submit or dominate? Would Link still feel as queasy as his kisses with Kafei had left him? Would it be shy and naïve as Malon's? Link didn't know, but as he stared at the Sheikah's back, he knew he would do anything to find out.
And then Sheik whirled around, eyebrows arched as if to ask something, and Link did something very impulsive.
He pulled the Sheikah down with him as he ended up kneeling - took a moment to relish on the fact he had made Sheik squeak - and then kissed him soundly.
Lips opened instantly, flooring him with the longing he felt in the desperate movements. They didn't claw at clothing or tried to undress each other, they were too absorbed by the force of the kiss to try, too enraptured with each other to care.
Navi hovered above them, watched them for a second, then sighed wearily as she flew high into the trees, not willing to break whatever spell had finally set things moving.
After they broke apart, Sheik resting his head on the crook of his neck, Link couldn't really describe what he felt. It was frightening and delightful and strange and he was, indeed, a bit shaken, though not as much as he had been with Kafei and he had a feeling it was for a completely different reason.
It wasn't precisely perfect or earth shattering, and yet, he could think of nothing better.
